Unidentified armed persons attacked a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) road patrol unit at Pandarikulam road in Vepankulam, Vavuniya Monday around 11:05 a.m. killing an officer and injuring a trooper, sources in Vavuniya said. Meanwhile, SLA said that three troopers were injured in an attack by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Monday early morning at Macanar road in Sector 5, Vavuniya.

Four more bodies found dumped in the suburbs of Vavuniya, were handed over to the hospital mortuary, Friday morning, police in the northern town said. The victims are yet to be identified, hospital sources said.

Sri Lanka Army troopers and police personnel Thursday morning threatened Tamil civilians at Mathavadikulam, a suburb located 3 km south of Vavuniya town, after a gang shot and killed a Sinhala civilian Wednesday night. The SLA soldiers warned Tamil residents that they would be chased away from the area, residents complained. The killing follows the slaying of 6 Tamil civilians Tuesday night in Vavuniya. Tension prevails in Mathavadikulam and Moonrumurippu.

Six persons, including a woman and a driver attached to Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) were shot and killed, and two young men riding in a three-wheeler were killed, in two separate incidents in Vavuniya, Tuesday night. Four of the victims were killed at a house in Kurumankadu, 2 km west of Vavuniya town, 200 meters from a Police post, and the other two victims, riding in a three-wheeler on Rice Mill Road were shot dead. One of the victims was burnt inside the three-wheeler, Police said.
Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Friday handed over 5 bullet-sprayed dead bodies and an exploded body to Police, claiming that the youths were killed when SLA troopers retaliated to gunfire Thursday night. The sixth youth had killed himself, Friday early morning, detonating a hand grenade, according to the SLA that claimed that the youths were LTTE cadres waiting to penetrate into SLA area. The killings have taken place at Parayanalankulam 30 km west of Vavuniya town along Vauniya Mannar Road.
